Governance
Independence & Ethical Safeguards
The National Lived Experience Commission (NLEC) is an independent national cross-system lived experience peak body and intelligence institution. Its category is Cross-System Lived Experience Intelligence, and its method is Experience → Evidence → Intelligence → Reform. These describe NLEC's institutional role and approach; NLEC is an independent charity, not a statutory commission, government agency, or government-appointed body. It has no statutory investigative or enforcement powers.
Structural Independence
NLEC's public analysis and recommendations are its own institutional positions. The published Membership Terms state that financial support does not guarantee selection for commissioned work or influence over independent evidence findings.
Membership and Contributor Boundaries
NLEC's published Membership Terms and Contributor Support Charter state these limits:
- Membership does not confer influence over NLEC's independent evidence findings or guarantee selection for commissioned work.
- Contributors choose how they are recognised; named attribution requires their choice.
- Registering as a contributor does not guarantee paid work; payment applies to commissioned engagements.
Conflict of Interest Management
NLEC's published governance policy describes disclosure of actual or potential conflicts by people undertaking NLEC responsibilities, recording disclosed conflicts, and excluding a person from a decision on a matter where they have a conflict.
Evidence Assessment
NLEC's method, Experience → Evidence → Intelligence → Reform, distinguishes experience, evidence, analysis and reform. Accounts and other source material should retain their scope and limits; participation alone does not establish prevalence, consensus, causation, or authority to speak for people who did not participate. NLEC does not adjudicate individual legal disputes.
Charitable Purpose
NLEC is registered as a charity. Registration does not make NLEC a statutory body or mean its positions are government-approved.
